Editing saved references in Zotero is straightforward and fully supported within the software interface. Modifications can be made at any time after initial saving. Changes are effected within the reference information panel, located in the right-hand pane when a reference is selected in the center library pane. Essential fields such as title, author, publication date, and journal title can be edited directly. Crucially, identifiers automatically populated by Zotero, such as DOI, ISBN, or PMID, should generally not be altered manually unless correcting an error to maintain data integrity and citation functionality. Ensure changes are saved either by moving focus away from the edited field or by clicking elsewhere within the Zotero window. To edit a reference, first select it from your library view. Next, navigate to the right-hand information pane and click directly on the field you wish to modify. Type your changes. Utilize the item type menu if the reference type needs changing. Remember to save linked PDFs or notes separately by clicking on their respective tabs within the information pane. Finally, Zotero automatically saves all changes made to the reference metadata, ensuring updates reflect immediately in your library and citations.
